Dr. Clif Mims serves as the Executive Director of the Martin Institute. On the forefront of integrating new technology into the classroom, Dr. Mims brings more than seventeen years of teaching and research to the fields of educational technology and instructional design. As a teacher, author and sought-after speaker and educational consultant, Dr. Mims shares his expertise in effectively integrating technology with teaching and learning with educators, schools, districts, and state departments of education.
Dr. Mims combines his commitment to teacher education with a love of instructional design and innovative technology, customizing lessons, courses, professional development workshops and keynote presentations according to the individual needs of learners. Past workshop titles include “Breaking through the Walls of the Classroom,” (iConnect iLearn Conference, 2009), “Using Digital Technologies and Personal Learning Networks to Enhance Learning” (Podstock Educational Conference, 2009), “Collaboration in a Web 2.0 World” (University of Memphis Advanced Learning Center, 2008), “Technology Integration Showcase: Strategies and Tools Worthy of Discussion” (Association for Educational Communications and Technology Conference, 2008) and “Integrating Virtual Manipulatives into Elementary Mathematics Classrooms” (National Educational Computing Conference, 2008).
In addition to his consulting work in professional development and educational technology, Dr. Mims is well-versed on state and national standards and has served on several curriculum realignment and state standards committees in Tennessee and Mississippi. He specializes in diagnosing the areas in which schools’ and districts’ achievement test scores are deficient, then facilitating the design, development and implementation of an action plan with achievable strategies for improvement.
Clif began his career teaching elementary and middle school students, later teaching at the University of Georgia, where he earned his Ph.D. in Instructional Technology. After serving as an assistant professor of elementary mathematics at the University of Mississippi, Dr. Mims joined the Instructional Design and Technology faculty of the University of Memphis in 2005 and now serves as Program Coordinator.
