2011 Martin Institute Summer Conference

The 2011 Martin Institute Summer Conference will be in Memphis, TN on June 15-16. The conference will be hosted at the Martin Institute for Teaching Excellence on the campus of Presbyterian Day School. This year's theme is Teaching for Tomorrow, which focuses on 21st century skills.

Topics will include: higher-order thinking skills, assessment, evaluation, life skills, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, learning environments, and more. In addition to the many general education sessions, there will also be two special strands focusing on literacy and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).
Tennessee educators may receive 16 hours of CEU, CO, and TASL professional development credit.

The institute brings other distinguished educators from around the country to share their ideas and practices. From Silicon Valley to Delaware and hailing from nine states, the speakers include Apple Distinguished and Google Certified teachers, university professors, district curriculum trainers, administrators and teachers at high performing independent and public schools, Teach For America program staff, and the Governor of Tennessee, Bill Haslam. Other featured speakers include Tom Barrett, an innovative primary school teacher from Nottingham, England; Carol Vukelich, an expert on early literacy; Viaja Wagle, a group leader at Harvard's Project Zero Institute; and Tiffany Boyd, a consultant with Heinemann Publishing.
